Room 5 Blog 2019

Welcome to Room 5's Blog 2019

Kia Ora and welcome to Room 5's Blog for 2019.

Day 1 has come and gone and there were no tears, so that was good. The children are beginning to learn the new routines and familiarise themselves with where everything is in the Junior School again. We will spend this week getting to know each other and what the classroom routines are, so I will not be sending reading books home until next week.

We are lucky in Room 5 to have a third year College of Education student with us throughout the year. Her name is Eva Mullally ( Miss Mullally). She will be spending the first nine days with Room 5, then she will be in the classroom every Tuesday. She will be on teaching control for several weeks twice this year.

In Week 3 on Thursday the 14th February in the afternoon we will be taking a trip to the Art Gallery. This is always a wonderful trip always made more interesting by Art Educator John Neumegen. I will be asking for parent helpers for this trip so if you are available that would be great. Please no toddlers though as it is full on helping the children complete their art works in a limited time frame.

In Week 4 and 5 we we will be going swimming. Swimming runs for 8 days from Tuesday 19th February- Thursday 28th February. Our swimming time is 11:30- 12:00 but if you are coming to help it will be 11:00-12:30 because we need to walk to and from the pool. Children will need extra food in their lunch boxes at this time. Again if you are available to walk to and from the pool or help with changing the children, that would be wonderful. I will send a note home this week with your child for both swimming help and help at the Art Gallery.

The Value of the term is RESPONSIBILITY and talking about this is a great way to start the year. Please can you help by reinforcing with your child that it is their responsibility to unpack their bags in the morning. It is also their responsibility to bring home their reading, any notices they are given and return their library books.

Our well being focus is to CONNECT, so that is perfect for starting a new year in a new class. The Blog is also a great way in which we/I can connect with you at home.

Our Topic for the first part of this term is Road Safety. We will be having visits from Constable Gwen Brazier starting the 5th February to teach the children safe walking and road crossing. This links in well with our walking to the pool and using the crossing when we need to go to the senior side for library and assemblies or other events.

It is a SUNHAT term. The children need to wear a sunhat each day at school when outside. Please ensure you include one in their bag.

Any other questions please feel free to talk with me before school from 8:30 am onwards.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

Kind regards

Bronwyn Macgregor
